A Brunswick Market Italian
Sorry for all of the history mixed in with my posts recently, I double dipped and used my blog as a portfolio in my orientation class. The topic was "What is Britishness" so I made mine Eating my Way Through "Britishness." I had to through some history in there for it to count as an NYU paper, but I promise to get back to the most important, the food. Just this post and one more and I'll go back to the old ways. Hope you enjoy!
The Italian influence on London isn’t just in food; throughout the centuries they Italians have taught and changed London’s art, architecture, literature and government structure. London certainly found there two feet and have made a name for themselves, but the can certainly take Italy for some beautiful changes to their country.
There are small shops, cafes and great lunch spots along with some exquisite restaurants with some mind-blowingly tasty bites. By my dorm there is two great places called Strada and Carluccio’s. They are both in the Brunswick, the shopping area I’ve talked about before that has just about everything. The first night I went to the Strada I had a nice dinner alone, with some homemade pasta and Bolognese, along with some grilled veggies. I also had a vanilla pancetta with raspberry sauce that was out of this world. It was the perfect mix of soft creamy pancetta with a tart sauce. The meal was excellent so I returned with friends. We all shared pizzas, one being truffles and mushrooms and one margarita with a giant over easy egg on top, both were such great flavors atop a thin crust and finished with a chocolate lava cake for my birthday!
At Carluccio’s they have breakfast lunch and dinner. Not only is everything on the menu good, but they also have a full bakery in the front, delicious coffee, but also to-go food at lunchtime that is cheap and ridiculously good. The pastas are filled with way too much cheese and endless sauce, they have huge sandwiches on homemade bread and really cool sauces on them that they will press for you of course. You can top all of these meals off with a cookie, cake, tart or a meringue cookie the size of your head.
